Gary Lauer - eHealthInsurance

Gary Lauer is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of eHealth, Inc., a NASDAQ company, a position he’s held for ten years.  eHealth is the leading online source of health insurance for individuals, families, seniors and small businesses, and has helped connect over two million Americans to coverage, all on the internet.

Mr. Lauer and his staff have made eHealth a catalyst for change, successfully encouraging consumers and the insurance industry to embrace the company’s innovative technology to easily and quickly match people to quality health insurance.  eHealth was responsible for the nation’s first Internet-based sale of a health insurance product and has worked with small business and other entities to make health care more accessible and affordable, especially for the uninsured.  Approximately 40 percent of eHealth consumers previously lacked insurance coverage.  Additionally, through its powerful internet platform, eHealth pioneered the electronic delivery, signature and approval of health insurance applications, removing an estimated over 12 million sheets of paper from the system on an annual basis. eHealth is also a certified green business.

Mr. Lauer is very active in public policy, and has testified before key congressional committees about a variety of issues impacting the health insurance market and the use of technology.  He and his team have also provided valuable insight to policymakers on health insurance exchanges and enrollment strategies for the uninsured upon passage of national health reform. In 2008, eHealth was named to the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Program for Silicon Valley Internet, Media, Entertainment and Communications Companies.  Mr. Lauer is frequently quoted in national publications and media outlets

Prior to joining eHealth, Mr. Lauer was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MetaCreations Corporation, a computer software company.  Prior to MetaCreations, Mr. Lauer spent more than nine years at Silicon Graphics, Inc., a computing technology company, where he was a member of the senior executive team that grew Silicon Graphics from approximately $100 million to $3.5 billion in revenue.

Mr. Lauer started his career with IBM, where he held a variety of sales and marketing management positions.  Mr. Lauer holds a B.S. degree in finance and marketing from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business.
