Southwest Node

Under the leadership of Executive Director Geoff Wurzel, TechNet Southwest has worked diligently with member companies and coalitions to create the Texas Enterprise Fund, Texas Emerging Technology Fund, and Texas Engineering and Technical Consortium. TechNet has helped win approval for critical tax measures related to R&D equipment, initiatives to promote the growth and safe use of the internet, balanced measures to deal with e-recycling,  legislation to dramatically expand the use of technology and digital content in schools, and efforts to promote the expansion of renewable energy, such as solar energy.

Our combined efforts have made Texas one of the top growth areas in the country for the tech sector.  In 2009, TechNet Southwest was expanded to include several priority states in the region and Southeast, including Colorado, Arizona, Louisiana, Georgia and Florida.

TechNet Southwest regularly hosts roundtable and political events for key elected and government officials. Guests have included Texas Governor Rick Perry; Colorado Governor Bill Ritter; Texas Lt Governor David Dewhurst; current and past Speakers of the House in Texas and Colorado; Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, Attorneys General from Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and Arkansas; numerous State Senators and Representatives in Texas, Colorado, Louisiana and Florida; US Senators John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison; US Congressmen Lamar Smith, Michael MCCaul, Lloyd Benson;  Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano; US Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra; and more.
