TechNet: The Voice of the Innovation Economy
2008 State Policy Agenda

Summary of 2008 Priorities:

  • K-12 Education. TechNet supports initiatives to enhance America’s K-12 schools and to strengthen the performance of American students in disciplines like math and science.
  • Foster Research and Development. TechNet supports strong investment in university research and enactment of a robust, permanent research and development credit at the state level.
  • Strengthen the Internet as a safe global forum and marketplace. The Internet has created enormous new economic opportunities for Americans. TechNet will work with policy makers to make online commerce secure, protect the personal information of all users and educate our kids about on-line threats to ensure that their online experience is safe.
  • Promote broadband deployment and embrace new technologies like VoIP. Work with states to expedite the prompt, streamlined rights of way access, to encourage the deployment of conduit in new road construction, and work with state agencies and other stakeholders to increase the deployment of next generation broadband. We urge states to embrace new technologies like voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) that reduce consumer costs and deliver more robust and compelling communications.
  • Aggressively harness clean energy technologies to strengthen our national security and protect our global environment. Support the adoption and extension of market-based cap and trade strategies to reduce the environmental and economic risks of fossil-based fuels; promote investment for research and deployment; and establish state standards that drive innovation in the clean energy sector.
  • Provide leadership in protecting the environment. TechNet embraces responsible environmental stewardship in addressing challenges like the recycling of electronics products and the reduced use of materials of concern in products where possible.
