TechNet Applauds Senate Judiciary Committee’s Passage of the ECPA Amendment

Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the bipartisan policy and political network of technology CEOs that promotes the growth of the innovation economy, issued the following statement in response to the Senate Judiciary Committee’s unanimous vote to amend the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act:

“TechNet applauds the Senate Judiciary Committee’s passage of the Electronic Communications Privacy Amendments Act of 2013.  This is an important step forward in safeguarding the privacy of users’ electronically stored content, by requiring law enforcement to possess a warrant before gaining access to online content, no matter where it is stored or for how long.  We thank Chairman Leahy, Ranking Member Grassley, Senator Lee, and the members of the Committee for their bipartisan work on this issue, and look forward to continuing to work with leadership in both Party’s, in both chambers, to ensure these reasonable reforms become law.”
