Washington, D.C.
TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior
executives, today issued the following statement by President and CEO Linda
Moore on Senator Cory Gardner’s (R-CO) legislation addressing venue reform in
patent litigation.

“TechNet commends Senators Flake and Gardner for introducing
critically important venue reform legislation.
The bill would reduce frivolous litigation and venue shopping and would
allow cases to be considered on their merits, not on where the case is heard. Specifically, the legislation sets
requirements for where civil actions can be filed in intellectual property
litigation by stipulating that actions can only be brought where the defendant
is located or where the alleged infringing action took place.”

“We urge the Judiciary Committee and the full Senate to
approve the legislation as soon as possible and strike a blow against patent
trolls who abuse our patent litigation system.”
