Online marketplaces, consumer protection groups, retailers, manufacturers, and law enforcement groups have all come together to support the Integrity, Notification, and Fairness in Online Retail Marketplaces for Consumers Act, or the INFORM Act, a bipartisan bill that would improve safety standards in online marketplaces.
Organized retail crime not only jeopardizes consumer safety, but costs businesses billions annually. Online marketplaces have heavily invested in technologies, personnel, and processes that identify bad actors and remove them from their platforms.
More and more states across the country are passing versions of the INFORM Act. This is creating a confusing patchwork of online marketplace regulation. Instead, Congress can act now and set practical, national standards, which would enable online marketplaces to thrive and help eliminate threats from bad actors. We applauded the passage of the INFORM Act in the U.S. House of Representatives and urge Congress to ensure the bill becomes law.
