Shape the Future of Innovation with TechNet
TechNet is looking for a dynamic, experienced policy advocate and lawyer to join our expanding D.C. team and help shape the future of innovation policy in America. This is your opportunity to work alongside the most iconic and innovative companies on the planet — startups and giants alike — to ensure that the American tech industry remains the global leader for innovation. You will co-lead TechNet’s legal center and help shape some of the most exciting and rapidly evolving policy issues of our time, including artificial intelligence, competition policy, financial technology, digital health, intellectual property, the future of work, and more.
We are seeking a senior policy professional with deep knowledge of Capitol Hill and the executive branch who can lead TechNet’s bipartisan federal advocacy efforts alongside an experienced and results-focused team, drive issue-area strategy, and strengthen trusted relationships with policymakers. Strong Republican connections are a significant plus and will be highly valued in this role, as TechNet works with both parties to advance a pro-innovation, pro-growth agenda.
Who We Are
TechNet is the national, bipartisan network of technology CEOs and senior executives that promotes the growth of the innovation economy by advocating a targeted policy agenda at the federal and 50-state level. TechNet’s diverse membership includes over 100 dynamic American businesses ranging from startups to the most iconic companies on the planet and represents over five million employees and countless customers in the fields of information technology, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, the sharing and gig economies, advanced energy, transportation, cybersecurity, venture capital, and finance. TechNet has offices in Washington, D.C., Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Sacramento, Chicago, Austin, Boston, Harrisburg, Olympia, Tallahassee, and Denver.
What You’ll Do
As a senior member of the TechNet federal policy and legal teams, you will play a key role in driving TechNet’s federal advocacy program and our engagement in court cases affecting American innovation. You will manage a core set of issue areas and working groups and build strong relationships with our members and policymakers. This role will report to TechNet’s Senior Vice President of Federal Policy and Government Relations and will work cross-functionally with the Communications, Federal Policy, State Policy, Membership & Growth, Innovation Legal Center, and executive leadership teams.
Here’s what your job will look like on a day-to-day basis:
- Lead federal advocacy on a core set of issues facing American innovators.
- Lead litigation and amicus-based advocacy in support of policy aims in the federal and state courts, including through in-house work as well as the effective management of outside counsel.
- Be a visible thought leader in developing bipartisan tech policy.
- Exemplify judgment, discretion, and effective management skills.
- Manage workflow associated with TechNet’s issue-focused working groups in your portfolio.
- Act as a registered lobbyist and trusted representative for TechNet and its members before Congress and federal agencies.
- Develop and maintain strong, bipartisan relationships with policymakers, including administration officials, Congress, and associations on policy priorities.
- Drive engagement with relevant congressional committees on important topics, including working with professional staff members on top committees to develop a bipartisan, pro-innovation agenda for Congress.
- Represent TechNet in public, including panels, speaking engagements, coalition efforts, and national events to advance TechNet’s policy goals and advocacy.
- Work with TechNet’s members to develop and submit regulatory comments, policy briefs, and public-facing advocacy materials.
- Organize and lead federal policy working group meetings, calls, and member communications.
- Provide federal political and policy insights for TechNet’s Executive Council.
What We’re Looking For
- A minimum of seven years of experience on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, or in senior government relations roles, with a premium placed on experience involving legal advocacy on policy issues or management of outside counsel.
- Strong relationships and proven success working across the aisle, with an emphasis on Republican offices and leadership.
- Experience and knowledge related to technology policy and other issues central to innovative companies.
- Experience interacting with or working for trade associations.
- Exceptional writing, advocacy, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and workflows in a fast-paced, member-driven environment that emphasizes results rather than busywork.
- A collaborative team player with integrity and professionalism.
- J.D. degree required.
