In 1997, a group of Silicon Valley visionaries, including John Doerr, John Chambers, and Jim Barksdale, recognized the need for a bridge between the technology industry and policymakers. They created an executive-led organization to engage with Washington, D.C. and state capitals across the country with the aim of educating government leaders about the growing technology industry and promoting a technology-led innovation ecosystem.
John Doerr and John Chambers continued to serve on the TechNet’s Executive Council for over a quarter of a century and remain actively engaged in the organization to this day. Under their leadership, TechNet has become an influential force for progress with an overwhelmingly successful record advocating for issues that foster innovation, technological advancement, and economic growth. Their vision has been central to shaping the technology landscape and promoting entrepreneurship.
TechNet has grown to represent nearly 100 members ranging from dynamic startups to the most iconic companies in the world. The organization has also expanded geographically with offices in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Harrisburg, Olympia, Sacramento, Silicon Valley, Tallahassee, and Washington, D.C.
