AI in Action
IBM and Roche develop AI-powered app for diabetes management
IBM and Roche have introduced the Accu‑Chek SmartGuide Predict app, which uses AI to forecast blood sugar trends up to two hours ahead, working alongside Roche’s continuous glucose monitor. It offers features like Glucose Predict for two-hour trend visualization, Low Glucose Predict alerts before hypoglycemic events, and a Night Low Predict to guard against overnight risks. By anticipating glucose fluctuations, the app empowers users to adjust meals, insulin, or activity proactively — demonstrating how AI can quietly support everyday health decisions and help people with diabetes stay more balanced and in control.

Obvio’s stop sign cameras use AI to root out unsafe drivers
Obvio, a California-based startup, is using AI and solar-powered cameras to monitor and reduce dangerous driving at some of America’s most hazardous intersections. The system is trained to detect a range of severe infractions, including speeding, illegal turns, crosswalk violations, and distracted driving, and sends potential violations to law enforcement for review before issuing citations. To protect privacy, the cameras operate without continuous surveillance, recording only when an infraction is detected. Obvio’s approach highlights how AI can enhance public safety and make roads safer.

New supercomputer powered by Dell and NVIDIA to speed scientific discovery
The U.S. Department of Energy, in collaboration with Dell Technologies and NVIDIA, has introduced the “Doudna” supercomputer — slated to launch in 2026. It combines Dell’s liquid‑cooled ORv3 servers with NVIDIA’s next‑generation Vera Rubin CPU‑GPU platform, delivering more than ten times the performance of its predecessor and is designed to support complex HPC workloads like molecular dynamics, high‑energy physics, and AI training/inference. Doudna empowers researchers to compress years of discovery into days — enabling faster iteration on fusion-energy, biomolecular modeling, materials design, and quantum-HPC co‑design projects. By harnessing cutting‑edge computing, the system demonstrates how powerful infrastructure can accelerate scientific progress and help the U.S. maintain leadership in energy, quantum technologies, and AI.
