Letter from TechNet CEO Linda Moore Outlines Actions to Foster AI Innovation, Support Public-Private Collaboration on Security and Standards, and Invest in Workforce Development and AI Infrastructure

Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, today submitted a comment from TechNet CEO, Linda Moore, in response to the National Science Foundation’s request for information on the development of an AI Action Plan.

“We applaud the administration for its inclusive approach in gathering diverse stakeholder perspectives as it considers its AI policy framework and in working with the industry to establish best practices. Pursuing an AI Action Plan that supports public-private collaboration on security and standards, invests in domestic workforce development and AI infrastructure, and ensures the global AI ecosystem remains anchored in the United States will allow America to retain its competitive edge. TechNet recommends that the administration’s AI Action Plan build on the efforts initiated under the previous Trump administration by adopting balanced policies that safeguard public interests while continuing to foster AI innovation.”

The comment outlines the following actions to help ensure America’s continued leadership on AI:

  • Promote technical standards based on industry frameworks and best practices
  • Incentivize private sector implementation of responsible AI
  • Adopt a risk-based, sector-specific regulatory approach and leverage existing laws
  • Set federal guardrails to preempt state regulation
  • Increase federal investment in basic research, R&D, and workforce development
  • Invest in infrastructure to support AI development
  • Develop AI-ready data
  • Standardize definitions and terminology
  • Adopt a national privacy standard
  • Support public-private collaboration on security
  • Improve federal AI procurement and government utilization
