GM Investing $7 Billion to Increase Battery Cell and Electric Vehicle Manufacturing

GM is investing more than $7 billion across four Michigan manufacturing sites, creating 4,000 jobs and significantly increasing its battery cell and electric truck manufacturing capacity.  Before 2026, GM will have the capacity to produce more than one million electric vehicles in North America to respond to growing electric vehicle demand.

Salesforce Empowering Young Voices in the Fight for Climate Justice

Davos Codes is a year-round Salesforce program that believes the voices of the youth need to be front and center in the fight for climate justice.  The program brings climate and environmental education to middle school students through a series of STEM classes and workshops.  This year, students will gain a deeper understanding of natural disasters and their implications through the exploration of the science and data behind local climate phenomena using seismic sensors.

Bloom Energy and SoCalGas Showcasing Technology to Power Hydrogen Economy with Gas Blending Project

Bloom Energy and Southern California Gas Co. announced a project to showcase the future of the hydrogen economy and the technologies needed to help California reach carbon neutrality.  The companies will collaborate to generate and then blend hydrogen into a university’s existing natural gas network to demonstrate how the natural gas infrastructure can be decarbonized while balancing future energy supply and demand.

Cisco Making Progress on Environmental Goals

In its latest Purpose Report, Cisco reported a 60 percent reduction in its global greenhouse gas emissions and said 85 percent of its energy came from renewable sources in 2021, meeting both of its 2022 goals a year ahead of schedule.  Cisco’s goal is to reach net-zero global emissions by 2040.

HPE announced new research that demonstrates how supercomputers can be used to test and benchmark computational performance for the quantum computing community, redefining theoretical performance claims that future quantum computers will deliver. HPE’s research improves predictions that would’ve taken 600 million years to simulate a quantum problem on a supercomputer by dramatically reducing the time to 73 days.
