AI For America will highlight AI’s current and future benefits to the American public to grow our economy, improve lives, and keep us safe
Initiative kicking off with “AI for Good” event on Capitol Hill
Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, today announced “AI For America,” a $25 million public affairs initiative to promote artificial intelligence’s (AI) current and future benefits and educate and inform Americans on how AI is already improving their day-to-day lives, growing our economy, and keeping us safe.
To kick off AI For America, TechNet is hosting “AI For Good” on Tuesday, July 25, on Capitol Hill. “AI for Good” will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and deep subject matter experts to discuss how AI is revolutionizing how we live and work, and what smart regulation around AI could look like. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. ET in the Hart Senate Office Building and feature discussions with Congressman Jay Obernolte (R-CA), Principal Scientist/Research Director of Google DeepMind Douglas Eck, Getaround CEO and Founder Sam Zaid, Nasdaq Chief Technology Officer/Chief Information Officer Brad Peterson, and others.
“TechNet and our member companies are leaders in artificial intelligence and smart AI policy. Too much of the conversation recently has been focused on hypotheticals rather than how AI is being used and will continue to be used to improve Americans’ lives in every corner of our country,” said TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore. “We’ve been using AI safely and responsibly for decades to navigate traffic, search the internet, undertake research, conduct a spell check, vacuum our home, and discover new music. AI is also being used to more accurately predict severe weather, protect critical infrastructure, defend against cyber threats, and accelerate the development of new medical treatments, including life-saving vaccines and detecting early signs of cancer.”
Moore announced the launch of the AI For America initiative on MSNBC’s Morning Joe:
AI is a transformational technology that is already solving the greatest challenges of our time from health care, agriculture, and education to transportation, energy, and national security. AI For America will cultivate widespread awareness and understanding of the positive impact AI is having and will have on all Americans from every walk of life. The initiative will combine coalition building, advocacy, social media, and traditional media to demonstrate the immense economic and societal benefits of AI.
AI for America is being funded by TechNet, whose diverse membership includes dynamic American businesses ranging from startups to the most iconic companies on the planet. AI impacts every industry across our economy, not just technology, and TechNet will build a cross-industry coalition that is united in promoting AI’s many benefits.
“As AI becomes more widely used, it is important that we establish common-sense regulatory safeguards that protect consumers and help businesses succeed,” said Moore. “While other countries are rapidly expanding and investing in AI, America must lead the way to ensure AI is developed and deployed responsibly across the globe.”
AI For America will educate policymakers and opinion leaders about these benefits and support policy and regulatory regimes that are right, not rushed, to responsibly advance America’s AI industry while providing appropriate safeguards and protections for all.
Tomorrow’s “AI for Good” event, part of TechNet’s AI For America initiative, is open to the media and will be streamed live beginning at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 25 additional details and to RSVP to the event, go here.
