Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, today announced Patrick Fleming has been named Director of Federal Policy and External Affairs. Patrick will direct TechNet’s efforts related to artificial intelligence and play a key role in the design and execution of TechNet’s comprehensive federal advocacy, campaign, marketing, and communications strategies. Fleming previously served as a consultant for TechNet.
“Patrick was instrumental in the development and launch of AI for America, and he will continue to play a pivotal role in our advocacy and initiatives around artificial intelligence (AI) and other priorities moving forward. Patrick’s extensive federal policy and public affairs experience will be a great addition to TechNet, and we are thrilled he is joining our team,” said TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore.
Fleming has over a decade of federal policy and public affairs experience. He began his career in Washington on Capitol Hill as an intern for U.S. Representative Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and staff assistant to U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (R-NC). He went on to serve as a senior policy advisor to U.S. Representatives Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Mike Pompeo (R-KS), handling both Energy and Commerce and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee work. In 2017, after leading U.S. Representative Mike Pompeo’s confirmation and transition process as the incoming CIA Director, Fleming joined a strategic communications and government affairs firm, where he represented clients in the technology, transportation, energy, and national security industries with a combined focus on government relations, strategic communications, and media strategy.
“TechNet is playing a leading role in shaping policy and public awareness around artificial intelligence. That includes AI for America, our initiative to educate the public about how AI is being used to improve lives, grow our economy, and keep us safe. I’m excited to join TechNet and look forward to working more closely with our members, partners, and policymakers on the key issues that will help ensure America wins the next era of innovation,” said Fleming.
Fleming, a North Carolina native and Eagle Scout, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree from the Hussman School of Journalism and Media with a second concentration in Economics.
