Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of tech industry CEOs and senior executives, today released the following statement from its President and CEO Linda Moore ahead of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer’s upcoming meetings with European Commission officials and member state trade ministers.

“TechNet applauds the Trump administration for prioritizing digital trade issues in recent bilateral trade negotiations, highlighted by the recent commitment it secured from South Korea not to discriminate against U.S. tech companies, including through online platform regulations.

“TechNet urges Secretary Lutnick and USTR Greer to build on the administration’s recent successes and continue pressing European leaders to roll back punitive regulatory proposals that unfairly target U.S. technology companies. We appreciate the administration’s steadfast engagement on these issues and its work to defend a fair, open, and non-discriminatory global trading system.

“American technology has strengthened transatlantic ties, driven economic growth, supported millions of jobs, and powered innovation across Europe. But burdensome and discriminatory regulatory measures  whether through digital market rules, data mandates, or targeted compliance regimes undermine that shared progress and threaten America’s economic leadership.

“A strong and enduring U.S.–EU relationship requires a level playing field that allows American innovators to compete fairly, without being singled out or penalized because of their success. We urge our European partners to work collaboratively with the United States to advance rules that support, rather than stifle, innovation and ensure continued economic prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.”
