Washington, D.C. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, issued the following statement on the passage of the reconciliation bill today in the U.S. House of Representatives. The following can be attributed to TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore:

“The United States is in a global race for talent. It’s why we champion immigration reform as part of a two-pronged approach to increase the skills of the American workforce so we can compete on a global scale. While investing more in STEM education is critical, that is a two-decade solution to a problem that exists today. We must work to fill current vacancies through high-skilled immigration, not turn away individuals who want to come to this country, put their talents to work for our economy, and create new jobs and opportunities for American workers.

“In the absence of comprehensive and much-needed immigration reform, the provisions in the reconciliation package are the first solutions in decades that give immigrant populations, like Dreamers, needed stability and peace of mind, while providing businesses the immediate relief needed to fill vacancies that will spur innovation and strengthen our economy.

“The climate provisions in the bill are also a positive step toward addressing climate change. It’s a historic investment, including additional funding for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, that will cut emissions, increase sustainability, and improve the health of our planet.

“We applaud the House for recognizing the importance of immediate immigration reforms and climate action.”
