Trenton, N.J. – TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of tech CEOs and senior executives, today sent a letter from Margaret Durkin, TechNet Executive Director for the Mid-Atlantic Region, to the New Jersey Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee in strong opposition to proposed amendments to NJ S2316 which would impose excessive data registration fees on companies that collect and responsibly use data.
The letter stated:
“The amendment uses a new definition of ‘Data Broker’ that diverges substantially and concerningly from the introduced definition. The amendment also adds a new definition and registration requirement for ‘‘Data Collector,’ significantly widening the impact of this bill and making it extremely difficult—if not impossible—for businesses to determine whether they are in scope.
“Businesses in New Jersey already pay a substantial amount of taxes and subjecting them to more picks winners and losers in an economy already contending with high costs and inflation.”
