Washington, D.C. — TechNet, the bipartisan policy and political network of
innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, today welcomed new legislation
sponsored by Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Senator Mark Warner (D-VA)
that would create a commission to address security issues posed by encryption,
law enforcement, and technology.

“I’d like to
congratulate Congressman McCaul and Senator Warner for proposing an expert
commission to address security issues posed by encryption, law enforcement, and
technology,”
said Linda Moore, President and CEO of TechNet. “This is timely
legislation, especially given all the discussion in recent days related to
encryption and security matters.”

“It is important to have an
expert discussion that considers the legitimate rights and needs of consumers,
businesses, governments, and the American economy. The proposed commission could provide a
valuable framework to help resolve these important issues.”

TechNet
has not endorsed the legislation, but it will provide comments on the bill to
the legislative sponsors.
