Washington, D.C. – Linda Moore, President and CEO of TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, released the following statement in response to President Biden’s annual State of the Union address:

“When American innovation and our economy are strong, the state of our union is strong. We remain hopeful that Congress and the Administration can get things done despite our divided government.

“The foundation for long-term success has been laid following the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and climate provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act. To help us win the 21st century and spread innovation and economic opportunity across the country, the President and Congress must finish the job and make sure these historic investments in broadband expansion, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, our climate, and the creation of regional technology hubs are fully funded and implemented properly.

“As we heard tonight, we also need a federal privacy law that gives consumers of all ages assurances their data is protected no matter where they live, while providing businesses certainty about their responsibilities. Instead of overly broad and poorly designed policies that would fundamentally weaken our national security and degrade the products consumers and small businesses rely on every day, the Administration, Congress, and most Americans agree that passing a federal privacy law should be a top priority. Now’s the time for the President and Congress to come together and finally get a federal privacy law across the finish line.

“We hope that in the year ahead, Congress and the Administration can work together and continue to drive thoughtful and bipartisan solutions that help all Americans across the country, spur innovation, and strengthen our economy and global competitiveness.”
